Celebrating Week of the Young Child in Oro Valley
The first week of April marks a special time in Oro Valley as we join in celebrating the Week of the Young Child™ from April 2 to April 8, 2022. This week shines a spotlight on the importance of providing young children with quality early learning environments that help them grow into capable lifelong learners.
The early years from birth to age five are crucial for brain development. Supportive parenting and access to quality childcare and education during these years lay the foundation for a child’s future. Local organizations, including First Things First, the Arizona Association for the Education of Young Children, and the Southern Arizona Association for the Education of Young Children, are teaming up with the National Association for the Education of Young Children to mark the 51st anniversary of this important week.
This celebration is not just about awareness; it’s about action. These organizations are committed to improving equitable early learning opportunities in Oro Valley, with a focus on programs like early literacy that are vital for our kids’ future.
We also want to extend our gratitude to the early childhood educators and everyone who plays a role in nurturing our young ones. Recognizing their hard work and advocating for public policies that support early learning is essential for the future of our community and state.
In light of this, Mayor Joseph C. Winfield has officially proclaimed April 2-8, 2022, as the Week of the Young Child™ in Oro Valley. He encourages everyone in our community to support and invest in early childhood education.
