Oro Valley Teams Up with Tucson Bicycle Classic

Get ready, Oro Valley! The 35th Annual Tucson Bicycle Classic is gearing up to hit our streets on March 5th, 2023, and the excitement is already in the air. This thrilling event will bring racers from around the world to our community, offering a fantastic opportunity for locals to see professional bike racing up close. With over 600 participants expected, it’s a spectacle you won’t want to miss!

According to race director Marco Colbert, the Tucson Bicycle Classic is a major event on the cycling calendar. “It’s incredibly competitive,” he says. “Both professional and amateur cyclists come to test their skills over this challenging weekend. We’re thrilled to host a stage in Oro Valley—one of the most cyclist-friendly communities in the nation!”

The event unfolds over three days, with the final day featuring a circuit race right here in Oro Valley. The new four-mile course starts and finishes near the entrance to Naranja Park. Spectators can watch cyclists loop the circuit up to seven times, enjoying the action from several designated viewing areas along the course.

Colbert adds, “We believe cycling is an amazing sport, and we’re dedicated to hosting events that benefit the community. We envision this as a community event that features a bike race, turning it into an annual celebration for residents and businesses.”

Paul Melcher, director of Community and Economic Development, shares his excitement: “Hosting the Circuit Race is a big step for Oro Valley. It highlights our excellent racing conditions, stunning views, and our community’s welcoming spirit. We’re excited to partner with the Tucson Bicycle Classic and look forward to future racing and community events.”

The race kicks off bright and early at 7:30 am. For more details about the event, including the route and road closures, you can find everything online. Join us to cheer on the racers and soak up the thrilling atmosphere!
