Firearm Incident at Canyon Del Oro HS: What Happened?

Tragic Incident at Local School Construction Site

On a quiet Monday, July 27, 2020, the Oro Valley Police Department responded to a distressing call at 25 W. Calle Concordia. Construction work was underway at the time, and the site was closed to students and staff. Unfortunately, a 40-year-old man named Noel Watts, who was working for a subcontractor on a roofing project, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

When officers arrived, they found Noel unconscious and bleeding heavily from his leg. They quickly administered first aid, applying a tourniquet and performing CPR. Paramedics continued these efforts upon their arrival, but despite their best attempts, Noel could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A handgun and a spent cartridge casing were found in Noel’s clothing. Thankfully, no one else was injured during this tragic event. Our thoughts are with Noel’s family and friends during this difficult time.
