Many folks might overlook the desert, seeing only dry land and sparse plants. But Southern Arizona is full of its own unique beauty and history. Tohono Chul Park in Oro Valley is all about celebrating the vibrant culture, art, and natural wonders of the Sonoran Desert.
National Geographic Traveler gave a nod to Tohono Chul, naming it “One of the Top 22 Secret Gardens in the U.S. and Canada.” But it’s not just a garden. It’s a museum, art gallery, event venue, and sometimes even a concert hall. There’s also a lively street market and a cultural center. Don’t miss the bistro, which showcases local ingredients and revives Tucson’s native cuisine with flair.
Spanning 49 acres, Tohono Chul is set along the migratory paths of local wildlife. Here, you might spot gila monsters, bobcats, and over 38 bird species. The park is home to 300 species of cacti and succulents, plus 50 species of wildflowers. It’s also proud to have the largest private collection of Night-blooming Cereus. Each summer, they host “Bloom Night” to let visitors enjoy these stunning flowers in full bloom.
Thinking of stopping by? Tohono Chul Park is at 7366 Paseo Del Norte, open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. Admission is $15 for adults, $6 for kids aged 5-12, and $13 for seniors aged 62 and over.
Make sure to check out their events calendar to see what’s happening during your visit. They offer a variety of activities, from yoga sessions to arts and crafts classes.
