Summer in Oro Valley can be downright blistering! But don’t sweat it—there’s plenty to do to stay active and cool. Our 2018 Summer Program Guide is packed with fun activities right here in town, designed to help you beat the heat.
Kick off your summer at the Summer Kick Off: Cool Down and Sign Up event on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at James D. Kriegh Park and the Oro Valley Aquatic Center (23 W. Calle Concordia). Enjoy free admission to the Aquatic Center, sign up for summer camps, and learn about all the fun things we’ve got planned. With activities, prizes, a slip-and-slide, and food for purchase, it’s a perfect way to start your summer.
Can’t make it to the Kick Off? No worries! The Oro Valley Aquatic Center will keep you refreshed all summer. We have swim lessons, summer camps like Fun Fins and Fantastic Games, water aerobics, lap swimming, and even scuba diving lessons. Grab your program guide for details on hours, memberships, and fees.
For those who love hiking, don’t let the high temperatures keep you from the trails. Join us on Saturday, June 2, for the National Trails Day-Nighttime Hike. Starting at 6:30 p.m., this free guided hike at Iris O. Dewhirst Trailhead (at the end of Magee Road) is a 3.9-mile adventure as the sun sets and cooler temperatures roll in. Bring along a flashlight or headlamp to enjoy the evening scenery.
If you’d rather stay indoors, the Oro Valley Community Center (10555 N. La Cañada Drive) offers more than 65 classes a week. Whether you’re into yoga, Pilates, Zumba, spin, boot camp, or Karate, you’ll find a class in a cool, comfortable space. Our members are a welcoming bunch, too!
