Oro Valley Officer Involved Shooting: Latest Updates and Information

Incident Overview

On April 28, just before 7 PM, officers from the
Oro Valley Police Department
responded to
Tohono Chul Park
following reports of gunshots in the area. At the time, the park was closed to the public. Upon arrival, officers encountered an armed individual whose behavior posed an immediate risk. The situation escalated to an officer-involved shooting, and the individual was struck. Officers on scene rendered first aid and applied pressure until Oro Valley Fire and Medical Services personnel arrived. Despite those efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.


Investigation Process

Consistent with departmental policy, the
Pima Regional Critical Incident Team (PRCIT)
was activated to secure the scene, collect evidence and interview witnesses. PRCIT is a multi-agency unit that includes investigators from local law enforcement, forensic specialists and legal advisors. The
Pima County Sheriff’s Department
has been designated as the lead agency for the investigation, ensuring an independent and transparent review of all circumstances surrounding the incident. The Sheriff’s Department will oversee firearm forensics, body-worn camera footage analysis and any autopsy reports to determine compliance with state law and department guidelines.


Public Safety and Community Impact

No officers or other community members were injured during the incident. At this time, there is no ongoing threat to public safety in the area.
