Tragic Accident at Shannon Road and Sahuaro Divide
On a Wednesday afternoon, November 13, 2019, a serious three-car accident occurred at the intersection of Shannon Road and Sahuaro Divide in Oro Valley. The Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD) quickly arrived on the scene around 3:42 p.m. to find a collision involving an Acura Integra, a GMC Sierra, and a Buick Le Sabre.
Tragically, both individuals in the Acura Integra did not survive the crash. The driver of the GMC Sierra was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, while the driver of the Buick Le Sabre declined medical transport.
The initial investigation suggests that the Acura was heading north on Shannon and was about to turn west onto Sahuaro Divide when it was struck from behind by the Buick. This impact pushed the Acura into the path of the GMC Sierra, which was traveling south on Shannon at the time.
Thankfully, no students from the nearby high school were involved in this incident. Although the detailed cause of the accident is still being examined, officials have stated that impairment does not seem to be a contributing factor. The OVPD will share the names of the deceased after notifying their families.
