Passport to Fun: Seniors Can Take Advantage of Student Rates at Amphi Events

By Valerie Vinyard

Senior citizens can feel like students again at Amphitheater schools – this time, without all of the studying.

Now in its third year, the free Amphi Passport is available to residents who live in the Amphitheater District boundaries and are at least 62 years old. Spouses are eligible regardless of age. The Passport enables residents to get into hundreds of events over the school year, including sporting events, musicals, and others for the student rate.

“The Amphi Passport is a wonderful way for our residents to feel connected to their local schools and their entire community – whether or not they have children currently enrolled in Amphitheater schools,” said Amy Sharpe, director of community relations for Amphitheater Public Schools.

The fall sports schedule already has begun, with a variety of games and events. Student tickets cost $2 for all athletic events except state tournament games, which are not part of the Passport program. Fine art ticket prices range from $2 to $5.

Events are posted on each school’s calendar, which can be found by going to www.amphi.com and selecting the school from the drop-down menu. For instance, Canyon del Oro High School lists fine arts performances for orchestra, choir, a marching spectacular, and performance of West Side Story in October. Ironwood Ridge has a Broadway Showcase on its calendar in November.

Sharpe said that the district wants to show residents the great things that are happening in the schools and to thank them for their support. Just take the card to any Amphitheater School District sporting or fine arts event and get in for the student price. Seniors interested in attending high school sporting events are encouraged to check with individual schools to make sure there will be availability.

The Passport cards are available for pickup through the Amphitheater Community Relations Office, 701 W. Wetmore Road. The office also will email or mail a calendar of events to Passport members every quarter. For people who don’t live near the community relations office, residents also can pick up a Passport at one of the 20 Amphi schools after calling the office at 520-696-5225 and providing your information.

“We encourage more people to take advantage of this opportunity and welcome them to join us on our campuses, at our activities, and see first-hand the amazing things happening at our schools and the talent, training, and creativity of our students and staff,” Sharpe said.
