Preserving Vistoso Golf Course: A Community Effort
In an exciting move for Oro Valley, the town has teamed up with Romspen Vistoso LLC, The Conservation Fund, and developer Ross Rulney to preserve 202 acres of the former Vistoso Golf Course as open space. This means these beautiful lands will be available for all to enjoy for years to come. Along with these 202 acres, there’s also a 6.3-acre piece of land that used to house the clubhouse. According to the agreement, these parcels need to be sold together.
Originally, everything was set to close by December 31, 2021, but they had to push the date to January 21, 2022. The delay is due to some paperwork from the Pima County Assessor, which confirms that the 202 acres will not face any future tax issues under state law. Pima County officials are on it, and they expect to wrap up soon.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rulney plans to buy the 6.3-acre parcel for a new multi-family residential project. However, a hiccup has come up that needs to be fixed before he can proceed. The good news is there’s a solution! But first, the Vistoso Community Association (VCA) Board of Directors needs to approve a change in the land’s legal classification. Currently marked as “Commercial,” it needs to align with the Town’s zoning laws. Mr. Rulney has requested this change, and the Town is backing him.
Given the remaining issues, they’ve decided to extend the deadline to February 16, 2022, to ensure everything is sorted out. Unfortunately, the Town can’t share more details right now, but they appreciate everyone’s patience as they work through the process.
