Oro Valley: August 2024 Drowning Awareness Month

Oro Valley Focuses on Water Safety This August

As summer continues to sizzle in Arizona, the safety of our children and teens is a top priority for Oro Valley. With nearly two million young people in our state, keeping them safe is vital for our community’s future. Did you know drowning is one of the leading causes of injury and death among our kids and teens? It’s a tragedy that affects not only families but also emergency responders and the wider community.

Thankfully, there are ways to prevent these incidents. Simple steps like keeping a watchful eye, controlling access to water, using life jackets, and ensuring everyone takes swimming lessons can make a huge difference. Quick responses, including knowing CPR, are also crucial.

This August, the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona is teaming up with local governments, community groups, and residents across the state. The goal? To launch a united effort in raising awareness and reducing the risk of drownings.

In light of these efforts, our Mayor, Joe Winfield, has declared August 2024 as Drowning Impact Awareness Month. He encourages everyone in Arizona to get involved in initiatives aimed at reducing drowning risks. By working together, we can help protect our young ones and strengthen our community.
