Oro Valley Celebrates New Loop Path Expansion

Oro Valley is home to a fantastic trail system that’s a hit with hikers, bikers, runners, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. In May, The Chuck Huckelberry Loop got a little longer with a new half-mile multi-use path. This addition aims to boost safety and enjoyment for everyone. Positioned just north of the Oro Valley Hospital, it connects seamlessly to Rancho Vistoso Boulevard. Before this, cyclists had to brave unpaved stretches and share roads with cars while navigating Big Wash. Now, with this smooth, freshly paved path, both walkers and cyclists have a safer and nicer route.

Oro Valley Mayor Joe Winfield highlighted the teamwork behind this project, saying, “This new segment is a direct result of regional collaboration. It makes the trail experience better for cyclists and pedestrians, and more importantly, it increases public safety. Users can now focus on the scenic views instead of worrying about traffic.”

The Chuck Huckelberry Loop is a 137-mile wonder, with paved paths and bike lanes crisscrossing areas like Oro Valley. With easy access points at Riverfront Park, Steam Pump Ranch, Honeybee Canyon Park, and Catalina State Park, it’s a must-try for anyone who loves the outdoors. It’s no wonder USA Today readers voted it “Best Recreational Trail” in the nation for 2021 and 2022!

This new path doesn’t just enhance the trail; it also offers a secure link to Big Wash, a crucial floodplain and wildlife habitat. This connection aids in better floodplain management, monitoring, and maintenance, helping preserve this essential open space.

Kristy Diaz-Trahan, Director of Oro Valley Parks and Recreation, shared, “Our mission is ‘Inspire Connection through Recreation,’ and this new Loop connection does just that. It provides safe, non-vehicular access to and from the northern part of our community, adding to our cherished trail system.”

If you haven’t checked out The Loop yet, now’s the perfect time. Enjoy the new path, take in breathtaking views, bask in the sunshine, and see firsthand the beauty of community collaboration!
