Oro Valley Reveals Pavement Preservation Schedule

Oro Valley’s Road Preservation Efforts: What to Expect This Fall

The Town of Oro Valley is well-known for its well-maintained roads and pathways, and this fall is no different. The Town’s Public Works Department has rolled out its pavement preservation schedule for 2020, focusing on keeping our roads in top shape. This program is guided by data from the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) to prioritize which roads need attention. For Fiscal Year 2020/21, the Town allocated $1.5 million to this effort, thanks to funding from Arizona’s Highway User Revenue Fund.

Oro Valley Public Works Director and Town Engineer Paul Keesler highlights the importance of this work, saying, “Regular treatments, like asphalt applications, are key to extending a road’s lifespan. Our Town Council’s support makes it possible for us to maintain the high-quality roads Oro Valley is known for.”

Treatments for Main Roads

Two contractors will handle different treatments for our roads. Sunland Asphalt will apply a tire rubber modified surface seal (TRMSS) to arterial and collector roads. This treatment uses a special emulsion with ground scrap tire rubber to secure and protect the road surface. Work is planned from Friday, September 25, through Thursday, October 1. Keep an eye out for traffic signs and be sure to give way to construction crews during this time.

Subdivision Streets Update

For subdivision streets, VSS International will use a fiberized reinforced micro-surfacing treatment. This work is scheduled from October 6 through October 30. Residents in affected areas will receive notifications from the contractor about specific dates. The neighborhoods included are Suffolk Hills, Camino Cortaro, Lomas De Oro, Sun City Boulevard near Rancho Vistoso, and several others listed in the schedule.
