Join the Fun at Oro Valley’s 10th Annual Drug Awareness Day!
Get ready for a fun and educational day at the 10th annual Drug Awareness Day, hosted by the Oro Valley Police Department and friends. This special event is happening on April 6, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cañada Del Oro Riverfront Park, located at 551 West Lambert Lane. It’s especially for all the fifth-graders in Oro Valley and the surrounding areas.
The event is packed with exciting activities and informative talks. Oro Valley Mayor Dr. Satish I. Hiremath and Anthony Coulson from NTH Consulting will be there to speak with the students. The highlight of the day is the essay contest, where students wrote about their dreams of staying drug-free. OVPD Chief Daniel G. Sharp will announce the winners and hand out prizes.
This is an important time for our young community members as they prepare to enter middle school, where they might face new challenges like drug use or experimentation. The day aims to open a dialogue about drug prevention for both students and their parents, with around 700 fifth-graders expected to join.
The park will be buzzing with exciting displays! Kids can check out motors, SWAT, and Southern Arizona Search and Rescue (SAR) equipment. There will also be a Customs and Border Patrol mounted patrol, K-9 units, and helicopters—including an American Eurocopter AS350 and a Blackhawk helicopter.
We are grateful to the many agencies participating, such as the OVPD, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, FBI, Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Tucson Police Department, Marana Police Department, Department of Public Safety, Pima County Attorney General 88 CRIME, Elks Lodge #2663, and Golder Ranch Fire District.
Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity for a day of learning and fun!
