Honoring the Abilities and Contributions of Arizona’s Residents
In Arizona, more than 120,000 individuals live with developmental disabilities—including nearly 60,000 children. These Arizonans demonstrate remarkable resilience and ambition, striving for personal success through education, meaningful employment, and strong family and community connections.
Our Community’s Role
As neighbors, educators, employers, and civic leaders, we each have a part to play in removing barriers and ensuring full inclusion. By expanding accessible programs, creating inclusive workplaces, and fostering welcoming public spaces, we help every resident reach their full potential.
Why March Matters
March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a time dedicated to:
- Celebrating the diverse talents and contributions of people with developmental disabilities
- Raising public awareness about the importance of inclusion and accessibility
- Encouraging participation in local events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities
Strengthening Oro Valley
Recognizing and elevating the voices of residents with developmental disabilities enriches our community fabric and reinforces Oro Valley’s commitment to diversity and inclusion—in schools, workplaces, places of worship, local government, and beyond.
Therefore, I, Joseph C. Winfield, Mayor of Oro Valley, do hereby proclaim March 2022 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in our town, and I encourage all citizens to observe this month with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs.
