Oro Valley Wins 13th National Budget Award in a Row

Oro Valley, Arizona (April 20, 2021) – Great news for Oro Valley! For the 13th year in a row, the town has proudly received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2020 budget. This award highlights the dedication of our Town Council and staff to maintaining top-notch standards in budgeting.

To earn this recognition, Oro Valley’s budget had to meet national guidelines that ensure effective presentation. These guidelines evaluate how well the budget acts as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. It had to be rated “proficient” across four categories and meet 14 mandatory criteria.

David Gephart, our Chief Financial Officer, shared, “Our team works diligently each year to create a budget that’s both informative and easy to understand. We want Oro Valley residents to know how their tax dollars are being used to provide a range of important services. We’re honored by the GFOA’s recognition of our efforts.”

This award isn’t just a local achievement—it’s part of a wider program with more than 1,600 participants. Oro Valley stands out among the many cities and towns in North America striving to improve budget quality.
