Leonardo Electronics Chooses Oro Valley for New Facility
Great news for Oro Valley! Leonardo Electronics US Inc. has picked our town for their new cutting-edge semiconductor laser manufacturing plant. They’ve bought 12 acres in Innovation Park, thanks to a collaborative effort with Sun Corridor, Inc. and regional partners. If everything goes as planned, construction will kick off in the spring of 2022.
Leonardo Electronics, a key player in defense, security, medical, and industrial tech, is part of the global giant Leonardo, based in Rome, Italy. This big move is expected to add around 170 jobs over five years and bring a whopping $100 million in investment, boosting our local economy by over $374 million in the next decade.
For Oro Valley, this means more job opportunities and an increase in local spending and sales tax revenues. It’s a win-win for everyone, with benefits like improved services, facilities, and infrastructure. The estimated $100 million investment is also a boon for construction sales taxes and future growth.
Matthew Keegan, the president and CEO of Leonardo Electronics US Inc., shared his excitement about the new facility, highlighting Innovation Park’s great location and access to top-notch talent. It’s not surprising why Oro Valley has been dubbed the “Upscale tech Mecca of Southern Arizona” by the Arizona Daily Star.
Innovation Park, already bustling with companies like Roche Tissue Diagnostics and Meggitt Securaplane, will soon welcome Leonardo as the latest addition to its tech family. Mayor Joe Winfield expressed his enthusiasm, noting how Leonardo’s presence will strengthen our community’s reputation as a hub for bioscience and high-tech industries.
Town Manager Mary Jacobs added, “Leonardo Electronics typifies the type of employer Oro Valley has been striving to attract.” She sees their arrival as a catalyst for future investments by other leading companies.
