Oro Valley Alert: Roundabout Construction Starts Sept 18

Exciting Changes Coming to the La Cañada Drive and Moore Road Intersection!

Hey Oro Valley! We have some important news about a big change happening soon in our neighborhood. Starting Wednesday, September 18, construction will kick off at the intersection of La Cañada Drive and Moore Road, where a brand-new roundabout will be built.

For everyone who drives through this area, you’ll need to take a different route for a bit. The usual detour routes are still in place, but thanks to Richmond American, we’ve got a handy new option – Dutch Drive. It links La Cañada Drive and Moore Road, and while it’s not officially town property yet, the developer is letting us use it to make getting around easier during the construction.

Just a heads up, the intersection will be completely closed to traffic from September 18 to November 22, except for emergency vehicles. This closure will help speed up the project, which means less disruption for everyone. Originally planned to take nine months, the new schedule aims to wrap it all up in just two months with the help of Borderland Construction.

Pedestrians and cyclists, there’s a path for you too, but be careful as it might be a bit bumpy. Cyclists may need to walk their bikes in certain areas, so plan ahead. You can check out the detour map here.

Why a roundabout, you ask? Well, they’re not just trendy; they’re safer than traffic lights. They slow down traffic and reduce the chance of accidents. You can see what the new roundabout will look like in this rendering.

The Oro Valley Police Department will be around to keep an eye on things during construction, and a new four-way stop will be set up at the Copper Springs Trail, Salt Cedar Drive, and Moore Road intersection to keep traffic moving smoothly. Don’t worry, emergency vehicles will still have access at all times.

We know construction can be a bit of a hassle, so we appreciate your patience. Our town officials promise to keep you informed and will soon share materials on how to navigate the new roundabout once it’s ready in November.
