Oro Valley Mayor Joins Statewide Earth Day Celebration

Oro Valley, Arizona (April 19, 2021)

Hey Oro Valley! Big news from our own Mayor Joe Winfield and nine other Arizona mayors as they team up to kick off Earth Day AZ. This statewide initiative is all about celebrating the ways our communities are stepping up for the planet, not just on Earth Day on April 22, but throughout the entire month of April and beyond.

These mayors, along with Arizona State University’s Sustainable Cities Network, are working together to show how unity can make a real difference. It’s all about protecting our state’s rich and varied natural treasures and ensuring a bright future for everyone.

Mayor Joe Winfield reminds us that actions, big and small, count. “Whether it’s carpooling, recycling, or joining forces in projects like this, every effort matters,” he says. Earth Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a call to action to keep sustainability at the heart of what we do every single day.

This initiative is backed by several cities and towns across Arizona. Since Earth Day first started on April 22, 1970, it’s been a global push for positive environmental change. And while we officially celebrate on April 22, there’s no wrong day to embrace sustainable practices and show our planet a little extra love.

Here are four easy steps to make a difference:

1. Reduce your consumption to live more sustainably.
2. Reuse materials to cut down on waste.
3. Recycle what you can to keep waste minimal.
4. Reconsider your daily habits to find greener alternatives.

By embracing these simple habits, we can all contribute to a more sustainable future for Oro Valley and beyond.
