Oro Valley Gets Involved in Child Passenger Safety Week

Hey Oro Valley residents! Mark your calendars for Child Passenger Safety Week happening from September 23 to September 29, 2018. This important campaign, a collaboration between the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the National Highway Safety Administration, aims to keep our little ones safe on the roads. It’s a nationwide effort to ensure parents and caregivers have all the knowledge they need to protect their children while traveling.

To support this cause, our very own Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD), along with Golder Ranch Fire District, is hosting a free car seat inspection event. Swing by on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the OVPD. This is a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to get their car seats checked out by certified technicians. Don’t forget to bring your child, so the pros can make sure everything is adjusted just right. Want to secure your spot? Give OVPD a call at (520) 229-5085 to schedule an appointment.

During Child Passenger Safety Week, you’ll also notice an increased focus on enforcing child passenger safety laws around town. Traffic Enforcement officers will be out and about, ensuring everyone is using car seats and seat belts correctly. Remember, Arizona law requires that every child under five, or those between five and eight years old who are not taller than four feet nine inches, must be safely secured in a federally approved child safety seat. Officers can stop vehicles for violations of this rule, so let’s all make sure we’re following the law and keeping our kids safe.
