On February 5, 2020, the Oro Valley Police Department received a call about a 14-year-old girl who had run away from home. Thanks to their efforts, they found her safe in Tucson. After some interviews and cell phone analysis, it was discovered she was planning to travel from Arizona to Michigan. Her aim was to meet 44-year-old Gerard Dickinson, a long-haul truck driver.
In a warm and eventful Oro Valley Town Council meeting on February 5, 2020, Kara M. Riley was chosen to be the new Chief of Police, starting on February 22, 2020. She will take over from Chief Daniel G. Sharp, who is retiring after an impressive 20 years with Oro Valley and 40 years in law enforcement overall. The Mayor and Council couldn’t say enough good things about Kara, emphasizing her strong character and leadership skills.
