Oro Valley Celebrates Award-Winning Town Budget Release

Oro Valley Celebrates Finance Department’s Achievements

Great news for Oro Valley! Our Finance Department has earned some well-deserved recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). Plus, you can now check out the town’s Popular Annual Financial Report online. Let’s dive into the details.

A Shining Achievement in Budgeting

For the 14th year running, Oro Valley has snagged the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its July 1, 2021, budget. This award is a big deal, highlighting the hard work and dedication of our Town Council and staff to top-notch budgeting standards.

To earn this accolade, the town’s budget had to hit the mark in nationally recognized guidelines. These guidelines assess how well the budget works as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. The budget had to be proficient in all four categories and meet 14 mandatory criteria. With over 1,700 entries in the Budget Awards Program, this win is no small feat!

David Gephart, our Chief Financial Officer, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are humbled and honored to again be recognized for this prestigious award, and especially the special recognition for performance measures which is something our team has been trying to achieve for years.” He credits the award to the immense hard work and dedication of the finance team in putting together a budget we can all be proud of.
