At the May 2, 2018, Town Council meeting, Oro Valley received a special recognition. Mayor Dr. Satish I. Hiremath proudly announced that Oro Valley is now a Purple Heart Town, a status awarded by the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
This honor reflects the town’s commitment to supporting veterans. The Military Order of the Purple Heart aims to create a supportive environment for combat-wounded veterans, promote patriotism, back important legislative efforts, and most importantly, provide service to veterans and their families.
Mayor Hiremath expressed how this recognition acknowledges the town’s efforts to go above and beyond for veterans. “Through events like The Wall that Heals and the Veterans and First Responders 5K, along with our veteran preference hiring policy, Oro Valley shows its pride in being a pro-military community. We are excited to be a Purple Heart Town and will continue to support our veterans.”
John R. Moore, Adjutant, and Commander Mike Dyer from Chapter 442 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Tucson, were present to accept the proclamation.
