On February 5, 2020, the Oro Valley Police Department received a call about a 14-year-old girl who had run away from home. Thanks to their efforts, they found her safe in Tucson. After some interviews and cell phone analysis, it was discovered she was planning to travel from Arizona to Michigan. Her aim was to meet 44-year-old Gerard Dickinson, a long-haul truck driver.
Detectives dug deeper and uncovered conversations between the girl and Dickinson. These messages showed he was keen on pursuing a sexual relationship and had received inappropriate images from her, all the while knowing she was just 14. By February 8, the Oro Valley Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit had teamed up with Michigan State Police, leading to Dickinson’s arrest. He is now in Saginaw County Jail, Michigan, awaiting extradition to Pima County.
The 14-year-old is now back home, safe with her family.
