Sun Shuttle Dial-a-Ride: Oro Valley’s Convenient Transit

Explore the Joys of Oro Valley’s Sun Shuttle Dial-A-Ride

The pandemic has changed how we live and work in so many ways. For some, losing a job has meant reevaluating how to get around town. For others, having reliable transportation is key to keeping their independence.

Here in Oro Valley, our local government has been working hard to support businesses and residents. One great resource is the Sun Shuttle Dial-A-Ride, a service that can take you wherever you need to go in our area—whether it’s your workplace, the grocery store, the doctor, or even Grandma’s house. It’s a great way to save some cash if you’re feeling the pinch.

During the pandemic, Sun Shuttle Dial-A-Ride has been operating at full capacity. To keep everyone safe, drivers sanitize seats and handrails, and buses get a thorough spray-down with disinfectant three times a week. Masks are required, so everyone can ride safely.

Surprisingly, not everyone in Oro Valley knows about this handy service! Open to the general public, Sun Shuttle Dial-A-Ride is a budget-friendly option, especially for families wanting to avoid the cost of an extra car. It’s also a lifesaver for students without school transportation or if your car needs a day at the shop.

For 24 years, Oro Valley Transit services have been helping residents. Since partnering with the Regional Transportation Authority in Fiscal Year 2011/12, Sun Shuttle Dial-A-Ride has become a cost-effective travel option for locals and visitors.

This door-to-door service is available Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. A ride within the Oro Valley area costs just $3.20. The service area stretches as far south as Ina Road and west to Shannon Road.

If you’re a senior aged 65 or older, you have even more options. You can ride to Casas Adobes for $6, or Tucson’s major medical centers for $9. Additionally, Oro Valley residents with ADA qualifications can travel throughout the Tucson-Metro area for $3.20, with low-income clients paying only $1.60 per trip. Weekends and holiday services are available for ADA passengers from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Our seniors have found this service invaluable, with some riders over 100 years old enjoying newfound independence and mobility.

Oro Valley Sun Shuttle Dial-A-Ride is continuously improving. From a modern fleet and advanced scheduling software to cameras and online reservations, we strive to make travel safe and comfortable. During the pandemic, we limited buses to three riders at a time for added safety.

To book a ride, call 520-229-4990 before 4 p.m. the day before. After that, it’s a “will call” reservation, requiring flexibility. Online reservations are available 24/7 at www.orovalleyaz.gov/Need a Ride?
