Oro Valley Herald: August 2023 is Drowning Impact Awareness Month
Hello, Oro Valley residents! We have an important message from our Mayor, Joseph C. Winfield. He has proclaimed August as Drowning Impact Awareness Month across our town. This initiative highlights a crucial issue that affects many families in Arizona. Drowning is one of the leading causes of injury and death among children and teenagers in our state. It impacts not just families, but also emergency personnel and the broader community.
Did you know that nearly every child drowning is preventable? It’s true! Proven strategies to save lives include constant and capable supervision, keeping areas restricted from water access, using life jackets, and offering swimming lessons to children and adults when they’re ready. Quick emergency responses, like CPR, are also vital.
Throughout August, the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona is joining forces with state and local governments, community organizations, and private citizens to raise awareness and take action. We encourage everyone to participate in these efforts to protect our children and strengthen our families.
Let’s come together, Oro Valley, to keep our kids safe around water. For more details, you can check out the PDF of the Drowning Impact Awareness Month Proclamation.
