Join the Celebration for La Cholla Boulevard Improvements
Hey Oro Valley residents! Mark your calendars for an exciting event. You’re invited to the groundbreaking ceremony for the La Cholla Boulevard Phase II Improvement Project. Join us on Wednesday, October 24, at 9 a.m. at the southwest corner of La Cholla Boulevard and Naranja Drive.
This project is a big deal for our community, and representatives from the Town of Oro Valley, Pima County, and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) will be there to kick things off.
A Little Project Background
Back in 2006, Pima County voters approved a plan to improve our roads, funded by a half-cent sales tax. The La Cholla project started with a Community Advisory Committee in 2009, looking at plans to widen the road from Magee Road to Tangerine Road. Phase I wrapped up in 2014, and now we’re on to Phase II, which started its design phase in 2015.
The final phase covers 3.5 miles, with most improvements happening right here in Oro Valley. The southern stretch is in unincorporated Pima County. Hunter Contracting, Inc. is handling the work, which should be finished by summer 2020.
If you’re curious, check out more details at La Cholla Improvements.
What to Expect
Phase II includes some cool features like wildlife crossings. The Town of Oro Valley and RTA are adding four medium-sized crossings on La Cholla Boulevard to help our furry friends navigate safely.
Also, during utility relocation, expect speed limits to drop to 25 mph between Overton and Tangerine. So, be careful and keep an eye out for workers and equipment.
About the RTA
Wondering about the RTA? They’re managed by the Pima Association of Governments (PAG), which handles planning and financial management. PAG’s member jurisdictions take care of the projects.
We hope to see you at the ceremony to celebrate this exciting step forward for our town!
