Hey there, Oro Valley residents! We’ve got some exciting news to share about this year’s Celebrate Oro Valley event. Though we can’t gather in person just yet, the celebration is going virtual, and there’s plenty in store for everyone! Mark your calendars for April 19th to 23rd and join us online as we explore the event’s five pillars: Arts & Culture, Science & Technology, Sports & Recreation, Landscape & Wildlife, and Leadership & Direction. You can catch all the action on the Oro Valley Parks and Recreation Facebook page at around 10 a.m. each day.

In-Depth Daily Activities

Monday, April 19: Arts & Culture
Kick off the week with a virtual public art tour led by Sasha Case, who will showcase the ram sculpture at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort. Plus, kids can join artist A. Jane Hicks for the story of Picasso, a mustang horse character. Joyce Rychener will guide them through making their very own stick horse craft. Tuesday, April 20: Science & Technology Double Feature
Get ready to explore the new University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine right here in Oro Valley. Plus, learn about the phenology trail at CDO Riverfront Park. Join Andy and Joanne Hogan, Mayor Joe Winfield, and others to discover how you can contribute to tracking climate changes in Southern Arizona.

Wednesday, April 21: Sports & Recreation
Catch the story of professional baseball player Hank Leiber and his family’s sports legacy. John and Cheryl Leiber, along with their grandchildren, will share family stories and put on a horseback show. Stay tuned for more oral histories from Oro Valley Parks and Recreation.

Thursday, April 22 (Earth Day): Landscape & Wildlife
Celebrate Earth Day with Carolyn Campbell from the Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection. She’ll talk about the Oracle Road wildlife bridge and share photos of the animals using it to travel safely.

Friday, April 23: Leadership & Direction
Mayor Joe Winfield will conclude the week with reflections on Oro Valley’s past, present, and future.
