Oro Valley Community Bulletin: An Invitation to Serve

Over the past few months, we’ve all faced some tough times. The pandemic, the Bighorn Fire, and economic ups and downs have shaken our lives. Each of us has felt these disruptions differently. Let’s remember to be kind and support each other. Just like how the land is healing after the Bighorn Fire, better days are ahead for all of us.

Amidst these challenges, one bright spot has been our renewed gratitude for those who keep our community running. First responders, healthcare workers, business owners, clerks, teachers, and countless volunteers have shown incredible dedication. Many have sewn masks, donated blood, and supported the food bank, making a real difference.

Volunteers on the Town’s boards and commissions also deserve our thanks. Your commitment to serving Oro Valley is invaluable. If you’re looking to get involved, consider applying for an open seat on one of these boards or commissions. We need people like you to help shape our community’s future.

Oro Valley’s boards and commissions act as the Council’s advisors in various fields like planning and zoning, water utility, parks and recreation, and more. You don’t need to be an expert in these areas—just have the desire to serve.

Openings on these boards and commissions pop up regularly. With staggered terms, there’s always room for fresh faces. We welcome newcomers who can bring fresh perspectives and new ideas. A good mix of viewpoints is essential, much like a three-legged stool needing balance for support.

Don’t let a lack of experience hold you back. If you’re interested in public service, visit the Town’s website. Check out the Meetings and Agenda section to understand the work involved. You can watch or listen to meetings to get the hang of it. We value the input from our boards and commissions, as they offer insights and ideas that guide the Town Council.

These roles require commitment, so make sure you’re ready for the time involved. If you’re appointed, there are resources to help you get started.
