Oro Valley Lands $55,988 in Grants for Local Treasures
Great news for Oro Valley! The town has scored two state grants totaling $55,988 to spruce up the Naranja Park Archery Range and breathe new life into a cherished piece of local history at Steam Pump Ranch. These projects are set to bolster both fun and heritage in our community.
Oro Valley Town Manager Jeff Wilkins is thrilled, stating, “We’re always on the lookout for opportunities to enhance life here, whether improving outdoor spots like the archery range or preserving historic gems like the Procter-Leiber House at Steam Pump Ranch.
Preserving Our Past at Steam Pump Ranch
A $30,000 grant from the Arizona State Parks Historic Preservation Heritage Fund will help us take a closer look at the Procter-Leiber House. Nestled at Steam Pump Ranch, 10901 N. Oracle Road, this historic house from the 1930s is a real Oro Valley icon. With an extra $20,000 match from the town, we’ll have $50,000 to assess its condition and plan its future.
Oro Valley Parks and Recreation Director Roz Epting shared, “Steam Pump Ranch is dear to our community, and this grant is a vital step in preserving its history for generations to come.”
Cool Comfort at Naranja Park Archery Range
Over at Naranja Park, 810 W. Naranja Drive, a $25,988 grant from the Arizona Game and Fish Department is set to provide much-needed shade at the archery range. With matching funds, $51,976 will bring relief to archers with a new shade structure and a paved concrete pad for easier access.
This archery range is one of the few public outdoor sites in Southern Arizona, featuring a fixed target range and two 14-target walking courses. “We’re committed to creating top-notch recreation for our residents,” said Deputy Director Matt Jankowski. “The new shade will make a world of difference for everyone enjoying our archery programs.”
