Oro Valley Updates Emergency Proclamation: Amendment #7 Released

Oro Valley Tightens Face Mask Rules to Tackle COVID-19 Spread

Oro Valley is taking a proactive step in the fight against COVID-19. On June 25, 2020, Mayor Joe Winfield issued an important update to the town’s emergency measures, originally set in motion on March 17, 2020. This new update, called Amendment #7, aligns with Pima County’s efforts to curb the virus spread by mandating face coverings in public spaces.

Mayor Winfield explained, “I am issuing an amendment to support this measure here in Oro Valley. By wearing masks, we protect our vulnerable populations and help our businesses stay open. I encourage everyone to follow this guidance from Pima County health officials.”

The new rule is now in effect and applies to anyone over the age of five in public spaces. These include any indoor or outdoor spots open to the public, such as businesses, offices, public buildings, highways, parks, and public transportation. Common sense exceptions apply, particularly for medical reasons.

Businesses open to the public must also ensure their employees wear masks. If physical distancing can’t be maintained, businesses may ask customers without a face covering to leave unless they fall under an exception.

Reporting Violations

If you see a business not complying with the mask rules, Pima County Health Department is your contact. They’ve set up a Business and Community Reporting Form on Pima.gov to report noncompliance. Remember, anonymous complaints are not accepted.

Oro Valley and Pima County are focusing on educating the public rather than strict enforcement. The County Board of Supervisors mentioned that any legal actions will need their approval. You can read more about this in their press release.

Please refrain from calling 911 about mask violations. Instead, use the reporting form or call 520-229-4949 to keep emergency lines open for urgent situations.
