2017 Tucson Senior Olympic Festival Recap

The 33rd Annual Tucson Senior Olympic Festival, hosted by the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation, brought together over 1,000 senior athletes for a month of fitness, fun, and friendly competition. Held from January 7 to February 4, 2017, the festival welcomed men and women ages 50 and up to compete in 31 sports across 35 events.

Events took place at numerous venues throughout Tucson, including:

  • PSE Archery Range
  • Udall and El Pueblo Regional Centers
  • Reid Park and Jim Reffkin Tennis Center
  • Voyager RV Resort, Far Horizons Tucson Village
  • University of Arizona Campus Recreation
  • And many more local community spaces

Sports ranged from archery and billiards to track and field, tennis, swimming, pickleball, bridge, and bowling. Participants demonstrated not only skill and athleticism but also the powerful impact of active aging and community engagement. Family, friends, and spectators filled the stands in support of these inspiring athletes.

The Tucson Senior Olympic Festival also served as a qualifying event for the 2017 National Senior Games, held in Birmingham, Alabama, from June 2–15, 2017.

The City of Tucson documented the highlights of the festival with vibrant photography and community coverage. You can view event photos and recaps on their official Flickr page:
